Prayagraj, Jan 8: The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday put a stay on the ongoing trial court proceedings in the Sambhal Jama Masjid case. The High Court has stayed the hearing until February 25.
The case was heard by a single bench of Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal. The High Court directed all parties involved in the case to file their responses within two weeks.
The mosque committee will have two weeks to submit a rejoinder to the responses of the parties.

The single judge has directed the Union of India, the Archaeological Survey of India, the Uttar Pradesh Government, the concerned District Magistrate, and all plaintiffs in the suit to submit their responses within two weeks. The case is scheduled for the next hearing on February 25.

The bench issued this order in response to a civil revision petition filed by the Shahi Jama Mosque Committee from Chandausi (Sambhal).
The petition challenged the trial court’s November 19 ruling, which had appointed an Advocate Commissioner to survey the mosque in a lawsuit alleging that the mosque was constructed after demolishing a temple.
The mosque committee challenged this decision of the district court in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court stayed the district court’s proceedings and directed the mosque committee to present its case to the High Court.
The petition in the High Court challenges the maintainability of the case pending in the Sambhal district court and seeks its dismissal. The Muslim party has also requested that the Advocate Commissioner’s survey report not be made public and has appealed to halt further proceedings related to the trial court’s survey order.
