Mumbai, March 20: Indranil Bhattacharyya has been appointed as the Executive Director (ED) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), effective from March 19, the central bank announced on Thursday.

In his new role, Bhattacharyya will oversee the Department of Economic and Policy Research. Prior to this promotion, he served as an Adviser in the RBI’s Monetary Policy Department.

With nearly three decades of experience, Bhattacharyya has worked in areas such as monetary policy, fiscal policy, banking, and international economic relations across various departments within the RBI, including the International Department.

From 2009 to 2014, he also served as an economic expert at the technical office of the Governor at Qatar Central Bank in Doha.

Bhattacharyya holds a postgraduate degree in economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and his research interests focus on monetary theory and policy, financial markets, market microstructure, and fiscal policy.
