ISRO announces Young Scientist Programme ‘YUVIKA 2024’ aimed at school students

New Delhi, Feb 17: A special program for schoolchildren dubbed the “Young Scientist Programme” or “YUva VIgyani KAryakram” (YUVIKA) is going to be organized by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

This initiative’s main goal is to teach younger students the fundamentals of space science, space technology and space applications in light of developing trends in these fields.

According to ISRO, it has designed this program to “Catch them young”. Given the chance, children can flourish in space science and technology, as they will be the future foundation of our country.

STEM education through hands-on space science program

It is anticipated that the YUVIKA program will also inspire a greater number of students to pursue professions and research in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

With an emphasis on rural areas of the nation, the Young Scientist Programme, or YUVIKA, was designed to educate younger children the fundamentals of space science, space technology, and space applications.

The program is designed to raise awareness among school students about the latest developments in science and technology. It includes two weeks of classroom instruction, practical demonstrations of experiments, hands-on experience with CANSAT and a robotic kit, interactions with ISRO scientists on model rocketry, and field trips.

With the participation of 111, 153, and 337 students, respectively, from each State and Union Territory, the program was successfully run in 2019, 2022, and 2023.

The curriculum will include classroom lectures, hands-on activities such as robotics challenges and do-it-yourself assembly of rockets/satellites, sky observation sessions, visits to technical facilities, and opportunities for interaction with space scientists.

Registration

YUVIKA-2024 registration will take place from February 20 to March 20, 2024.

The application is open to Indian students enrolled in Class 9 as of January 1, 2024.

Eligible students can register on the ISRO Antariksha Jigyasa Platform at https://jigyasa.iirs.gov.in/registration

Students who are interested can visit ISRO Antariksha Jigyasa’s website at https://jigyasa.iirs.gov.in/yuvika for additional information.
