Jamshedpur, Dec 1: With the Parliamentary election round the corner, the district administration has started buzzing the election bell here, but in a different way.
Men in Khaki were spotted on Friday offering flowers or flower sticks to senior citizens during a short spell of the conversation held between them.

What they conversed with the old men and women was the need to use their franchise during the polling and not to spoil one’s constitutional power by sitting idle at home on election day.
Such a stance by the police officials is rarely found, but it was conspicuously evident at a number of places across the steel city today.

One of the police officers, who was seen inspiring an old lady about the importance of casting a vote during the Parliamentary or Assembly election had attracted the attention of passersby in the suburban Barish locality of the city.
“We are creating awareness among the senior citizens about the need to use one’s vote during the elections which are coming closer,” said a police official while talking to The Jharkhand Story.
The police officer on condition of anonymity said that several police officials like him were doing the work to create awareness among the senior citizens about the use of vote following instructions by the Senior Superintendent is Police, Kishore Kaushal.
Jharkhand EC secretary promoting voting among senior citizens
Jharkhand Election Commission secretary Amit Besra confirmed that they are promoting the senior citizens of the society to step out of their homes to cast their votes.
“As many old men and women tend to evade going over to the polling booths for casting their votes. The exercise will continue for the next couple of weeks, ” Besra said while replying to the queries by The Jharkhand Story.

The Jharkhand Election Commission secretary said not only the police officer, any anyone can create awareness about using one’s franchise during the elections whether it is a panchayat election or a Parliamentary election.
“But one thing must be taken care of is that the one who encourages anyone to use one’s vote should not carry any flag, banner etc of any political party while doing so,” said Besra, adding that the drive is meant to maximize the polling percentage.
