Jamshedpur, April 8: Jamshedpur FC’s inspiring ISL 2024-25 journey came to a valiant end at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium on Monday night, as they fell 2-0 to Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the second leg of the semi-final, exiting 3-2 on aggregate.

After securing a thrilling 2-1 victory in the first leg at The Furnace, Jamshedpur entered the tie knowing a draw would be enough to book their maiden ISL final berth. Head coach Khalid Jamil set up his side with tactical discipline, aiming to frustrate the opposition and strike on the counter.
Mohun Bagan controlled the early tempo, but Jamshedpur’s defence remained resolute. Goalkeeper Albino Gomes delivered a standout performance, pulling off a series of vital saves to keep the score level at halftime.

The second half sparked to life when Javi Hernandez narrowly missed giving JFC the lead with a long-range strike. However, in the 51st minute, a contentious penalty awarded to Mohun Bagan shifted momentum. Jason Cummings calmly slotted it home to level the aggregate score.
In response, Jamil made an aggressive triple substitution, bringing on Siverio, Ritwik, and Sreekuttan to chase the game. Jamshedpur pushed forward with urgency, but Mohun Bagan held their ground.
Then, in stoppage time, heartbreak struck. Apuia pounced with a clinical finish to seal the victory and complete a dramatic turnaround for the home side.
While the result was a bitter pill to swallow, Jamshedpur FC’s journey this season was nothing short of extraordinary. From a fifth-place league finish to knocking out NorthEast United and stunning the Shield winners in the semi-final’s first leg, the Men of Steel showcased resilience, unity, and heart.
