Jamshedpur, June 29: Jamshedpur Police have busted an alleged cyber fraud racket operating from the Jawaharnagar area of Mango, arresting four persons who were reportedly running the operation from a rented house for nearly two years.
The crackdown followed a complaint lodged by a cyber fraud victim from Odisha.
Raid Based on Technical Surveillance
Acting on technical surveillance and digital evidence, police raided the rented premises in Jawaharnagar and apprehended the four accused.
During the search, officers seized several mobile phones, laptops, desktop computers, SIM cards and other electronic devices believed to have been used in the fraud.
Victims Lured with Fake Investment Schemes
According to investigators, the accused allegedly targeted people across different states by promoting fake investment schemes, online earning opportunities and other lucrative offers through fraudulent digital platforms and mobile applications.
Victims were allegedly persuaded to transfer money on various pretexts.
Police suspect the racket had an extensive interstate network and may have cheated a large number of people.
The seized electronic devices have been sent for forensic examination to ascertain the total amount siphoned off, identify more victims and trace other members of the syndicate.
The four accused are being interrogated, and police said further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
