Daltonganj, February 21: Campaigning for the Urban Local Body elections ended on a high-voltage note in Medininagar as actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada held a roadshow in support of BJP-backed mayoral candidate Aruna Shankar.

The popular cine star’s presence added a dose of glamour to the final day of campaigning for the Medininagar Municipal Corporation mayoral race. Large numbers of young girls and boys lined up along the route to catch a glimpse of the actress-turned-politician as she sought votes for Aruna Shankar.

Campaign Focused on Law and Order, ‘Bhay’ Factor

Throughout her campaign, Aruna Shankar projected herself as “Bahen”, drawing inspiration from Mayawati, and centred her messaging around issues of crime, commerce and trade. She repeatedly raised concerns over the ‘bhay’ (fear) factor, alleging the overt and covert involvement of organised crime network operatives in the election process.

The mayoral contest has drawn significant political attention, with several senior BJP leaders visiting Daltonganj in support of her candidature.

Among those who campaigned for her were Rekha Verma, Arun Singh, former Chief Minister Raghubar Das and Jharkhand BJP state president Aditya Sahu.

With star appeal and senior party backing, the BJP-backed candidate made a final push to consolidate support among voters aged 18 and above ahead of polling.
