Dhanbad Oct 25: BJP candidates Raj Sinha and Tara Devi filed their nominations for the Dhanbad and Sindri seats respectively on Friday.

Tara Devi is the wife of sitting MLA Indrajit Mahto, who has been ill for the last four years.

Former Dhanbad MP PN Singh accompanied Raj Sinha in nomination while sitting Dhanbad BJP MP Dhulu Mahto was present with Tara Devi in nomination for the Sindri seat.

Nomination on Oct 28-29 only

Barring two BJP nominees, no candidate filed a nomination paper today. Deputy commissioner cum district Returning Officer (RO) Madhvi Mishra said that no nomination will be filed next two days i.e.  Saturday- Sunday (October 26-27). Now only two days have been left (October 28-29) for nomination.

There are six assembly seats in Dhanbad. The BJP has announced its candidates for five seats, Dhanbad Sadar, Sindri, Jharia, Nirsa and Baghmara. The picture is still unclear on Tundi whether the BJP or AJSU would contest under the NDA seat-sharing formula.

In the INDI Alliance, the Congress Party has been given three seats, Jharia, Dhanbad and Baghmara.  Jharia sitting MLA Purnima Niraj Singh has already filed a nomination and Baghmara nominee Jaleswer Mahto has yet to file.

Congress yet to declare Dhanbad nominee

But the name of the Cong candidate for the Dhanbad Sadar seat against Raj Sinha of BJP has not been declared so far. In the last four elections, veteran leader Manan Mallick had been a Cong candidate for the Dhanbad seat. In 2009, Manan Mallick won the seat defeating Raj Sinha of the BJP. But in 2014 and 2019 he lost. But now due to old age, he is not in a position to contest the poll.
