Ranchi, Feb 28: In a bid to preserve and promote traditional biodiversity knowledge, the Jharkhand Biodiversity Board (JBB) has launched an ambitious awareness campaign in six regional languages. The campaign follows Jharkhand’s achievement of securing first place nationwide in biodiversity preservation.

Sanjeev Kumar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Member Secretary of the Jharkhand Biodiversity Board, met with teachers from various regional language backgrounds to discuss the roadmap for the campaign.

“The goal of this meeting was to focus on preserving both the regional languages of the state and its biodiversity, as well as raising awareness about tribal languages and their traditional knowledge,” Kumar stated.

The campaign is being carried out in Khortha, Panchpargania, Kudukh, Mundari, Santhali, Ho, and Nagpuri, the regional languages spoken in Jharkhand.

In addition to teachers, Kumar also met with language experts, including Vidya Sagar Yadav (Panchpargania), Dr. Arvind Kumar (Khortha), Dr. Sita Kumari and Dr. Bandey Khalko (Kudukh), Binadhar Shandilya and Karam Singh Munda (Mundari), Shakuntala Besra (Santhali), Nandkishore Rajak and Yuvraj Kumar (Nagpuri), and Dr. Saraswati Garg and Dr. Jaykishore Mangal (Ho).

During the meeting, Kumar sought the experts’ assistance in promoting biodiversity and raising awareness about regional languages.

Jharkhand was recognized for its efforts in biodiversity conservation at the two-day National Convention on Forest Security and Biodiversity Awareness held in Kolkata on February 21-22, where the state secured the top position in the country.
