Ranchi, April 22: In celebration of World Earth Day, the Jharkhand Biodiversity Board (JBB) organized a workshop at Palash Bhawan, Doranda, with a focus on this year’s theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’. The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity and its role in addressing climate challenges.
The event was graced by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and JBB Member Secretary, Sanjeev Kumar, along with prominent figures including Sangeeta, GM Environment of Central Coal Limited; Amit Kumar Mishra, Deputy Manager Environment at Bharat Coking Coal Limited; Pritam Marik, Deputy Manager Environment at Eastern Coalfields Limited; and Shiv Charan, Deputy Manager Environment at NTPC.
Hari Shankar Lal, Technical Officer from the Board, presented on the activities under the Biological Diversity Act, 2002.

Call For Collective Action
During the workshop, Sanjeev Kumar emphasized that the theme for Earth Day 2025—‘Our Power, Our Planet’—calls for collective action. He noted the vital connection between forests, biodiversity, and livelihoods, specifically highlighting how forests provide essential food resources such as tubers, creepers, fruits, and agricultural crops.
He stated that biodiversity plays a crucial role in combating climate change, underscoring the need for a shared responsibility in conserving natural resources.
“One seed, one hope—shape the future. There is a direct relationship between forests and biodiversity in livelihood. Biodiversity can help in fighting challenges arising due to climate change”, he said.

Training and Community Involvement
Sanjeev Kumar further highlighted the Board’s ongoing efforts to engage local communities, mentioning that small groups of villagers, ranging from 50 to 100 people, are continuously trained on various topics related to biodiversity through workshops.
These initiatives aim to empower communities and raise awareness about the importance of protecting the environment.
Participants were felicitated for their contributions to the cause, and various dignitaries shared their own experiences and activities related to biodiversity conservation, livelihood generation, and recreation.

The attendees, including representatives from various biodiversity management committees, praised the efforts of the Jharkhand Biodiversity Board. They expressed their commitment to contributing to the cause of conservation, emphasizing the positive impact it can have on both the environment and local communities.
Key participants in the event included Sangeeta, Rajeev Kumar, Amit Kumar Mishra, Pritam Marik, Shiv Charan, Rajesh, Ghaneshyam Mahto, as well as students and local community members such as Arun Kumar Mahali, Dinesh Tigga, Sanju Devi, Madhubala Devi, and Manisha Shankar.
