Ranchi, May 24: The Jharkhand BJP has questioned the transparency and fairness of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) after the delayed release of the main examination results.

Addressing a press conference at the state headquarters here, BJP state spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo expressed concerns over the category-wise results and reservation implementation in the recent JPSC main exam.

Shahdeo pointed out that the JPSC website claims to uphold a fair and transparent recruitment process. However, the recently declared results seem arbitrary, resembling a lottery rather than a merit-based selection.

He highlighted that it is unclear whether the reservation quotas for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and other reserved categories have been properly applied. He also questioned whether the rule of calling at least 2.5 times the number of candidates for interviews was followed.
He emphasized that Articles 15 and 16 of the Indian Constitution provide reservation benefits to SC, ST, and OBC categories. Additionally, provisions exist for EWS and other reserved categories.

“The JPSC should publish category-wise results clearly to ensure transparency in the system. This will help candidates understand their merit status better,” Shahdeo said.
He further referred to the Jharkhand Combined Civil Service Examination Rules 2023, notified by the Personnel Department on December 19, 2023, which explicitly mandates different cut-off marks for various categories, including SC, ST, women, extremely backward classes (Annexure 1), backward classes (Annexure 2), primitive tribes, and EWS. The rules also require calling 2.5 times the number of candidates for interviews and allow lowering cut-offs if necessary.

Shahdeo raised doubts over the absence of any category-wise mention in the published results, which raises suspicion about whether reserved categories received their rightful quotas or if candidates from outside Jharkhand were favoured again.
He urged the government to take cognizance of the matter and directed the JPSC to immediately publish the category-wise results. “Failure to do so will again bring the commission’s conduct under suspicion,” he warned.
The press conference was also attended by BJP’s co-media in-charge Ashok Baraik.
