Jharkhand boy wins two bronze medals in Youth World Weightlifting Championship

Ranchi, May 23: Babulal Hembrom, a JSSPS cadet, represented India in the Youth World Weightlifting Championship (22-26 May 2024) held in Peru, South America and won two bronze medals, weight category 49 Kg under 17 Age category.  The result was declared today.

On May 20, Babulal left for North America along with the India weightlifting team to participate in the international event. He is a resident of the Ramgarh district and his father Kaila is a small farmer. Babulal has been undergoing professional training at JSSPS since 2028.

The Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society (JSSPS) is a joint initiative between Central Coalfield Limited (CCL) and the Jharkhand Government.

Babulal underwent training in Patiala

Babulal underwent rigorous training in Patiala from March 5 2024 so that he could win medals for Jharkhand as well as the country.

Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has been instrumental in nurturing sports talents in Jharkhand. This commitment finds its roots in the policy of CCL through its CSR projects and considers sports as a powerful instrument for positive change in society and opportunities for employment for youths.

With a motive to promote sports in Jharkhand, an MoU was signed between CCL and the State Govt of Jharkhand in September 2015 to establish a Sports Academy, one of its kind in the country. This Sports Academy is operational in Khelgoan, Ranchi and jointly funded by a venture of CCL and the government of Jharkhand. 338 sports cadets (boys and girls) are undergoing professional training at Sports Academy, Khelgoan, Ranchi, which is managed by the Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society(JSSPS).
