Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has been instrumental in nurturing sports talents in Jharkhand. This commitment finds its roots in the policy of CCL through its CSR projects and considers sports as a powerful instrument for positive change in society and opportunities for employment for youths.

With a motive to promote sports in Jharkhand, an MoU was signed between CCL and the State Govt of Jharkhand in September 2015 to establish a Sports Academy, one of its kind in the country. This Sports Academy is operational in Khelgoan, Ranchi and jointly funded by a venture of CCL and the government of Jharkhand. 338 sports cadets (boys and girls) are undergoing professional training at Sports Academy, Khelgoan, Ranchi, which is managed by the Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society(JSSPS).
