Jamshedpur, June 30: The southwest monsoon has officially covered the entire country as of June 29 — a significant nine days ahead of its normal schedule of July 8.

The rapid progression comes amid active weather systems in the region, setting the stage for a spell of intense rainfall across Jharkhand over the next few days.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, a low-pressure area persists over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal regions of West Bengal and Bangladesh.

The associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level is expected to move slowly west-northwestwards across North Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand over the next 48 hours.

Synoptic Highlights

The monsoon trough at mean sea level runs through Firozpur, Sonipat, Ayodhya, Gaya, and Purulia to the low-pressure center over the Bay of Bengal, extending southeastwards.

An east-west trough from south Rajasthan and north Gujarat to the low-pressure zone is influencing the monsoon’s dynamics, enhancing rainfall over Central and Eastern India.

Authorities have urged residents, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain alert and take necessary precautions as localized flooding and waterlogging may occur due to heavy rainfall episodes.
