Daltonganj, Feb 22: A one-day cattle fair cum exhibition workshop was held in Latehar today. Latehar DC Garima Singh was the chief guest.
District animal husbandry officer Deonath Chourasia and his team of dairy development project had arranged the show. High-breed cattle were brought in.
Giving this information, the Latehar district animal husbandry officer Deonath Chourasia said ” The one-day cattle fair cum exhibition was held to promote cattle rearing as it helps in augmenting rural economy.”
Vaccination of cattle
Chourasia said, “Under the National Animal Disease Control Programme vaccination of cattle is on here in Latehar district.”
“Cattle like cow and buffalo are being vaccinated against foot and mouth disease. I know for surety there is so far no episode of foot and mouth disease among the cattle.” asserted Chourasia.

Bovine brucellosis vaccination
“There is another vaccination going on. It is against bovine brucellosis. This vaccination is given to female calves of cow and buffalo.” reminded Chourasia.
Brucellosis is a highly contagious, infectious and communicable disease where cattle suffer from abortion.
Vaccination against brucellosis gives a life long immunity to abortion, said Chourasia.

Tips on cattle feed
There were stalls set up today. One stall was to tell commoners how to detect adulteration to milk which is quite a most heard of thing said Chourasia.
There had come beneficiaries of Pashu Dhan Yojna in this cattle fair who were told and motivated to maintain their cows given to them.
The cattle fair offered tips as to how to feed or what to feed the cattle the beneficiaries have with them.

Pashu Dhan Yojna
Chourasia said, “Under Pashu Dhan Yojna 2 cows are given but for first six months one cow is given. It is to see how a beneficiary does the upkeep of the cow given under the Yojna. If the beneficiary proves his capability of rearing or maintaining cow, he stands a chance to get one more cow.”
Tana Bhagats in Latehar are pretty obsessed with cows and they believe having cows at home will drive away many of the ills of the house.
Such workshop at place like Latehar is meaningful, said sources. The cattle fair saw a tug of war by three beneficiaries for one particular cow!
