Ranchi, Dec.10: Farmers’ welfare took centre stage as Chief Minister Hemant Soren chaired the fourth meeting of the Sido-Kanho Agricultural and Forest Produce State Cooperative Federation Limited (Siddhacofed) at the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. The meeting focused on strengthening agriculture, improving forest-produce marketing, and increasing farmers’ income across the state.
Farmers’ prosperity is our top priority
During the meeting, the Chief Minister said that Jharkhand’s agriculture and forest-produce sector has huge potential. He reaffirmed that the government is committed to empowering farmers with modern technology, training, and better market access.
He stressed that farmers must receive fair and timely payments for their crops, as this boosts their morale and helps them move toward economic self-reliance. The CM added that agriculture is the backbone of the state’s economy, and farmer prosperity remains the government’s primary focus.

Water conservation and check dam maintenance to be entrusted to farmer groups
The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of water conservation and the repair of check dams. He suggested that the responsibility of maintaining these structures be given to farmer groups or Jalsahaya committees, promoting local ownership and accountability.
He said that this initiative will strengthen water resources and provide a sustainable foundation for rural livelihoods.
Special mobile app and agriculture portal
A major decision from the meeting was the order to create a dedicated mobile app for farmers. Through this app, farmers from all districts will be able to share crop details, access essential inputs, view market updates, and understand current pricing trends.
The CM also instructed the Agriculture Department to develop a local agricultural portal that allows consumers to directly purchase produce from farmers. This system will reduce middlemen, increase transparency, and help farmers earn better profits.
Focus on Jharkhand’s unique forest produce
The Chief Minister urged officials to strengthen the production, processing, and marketing of the state’s traditional and high-value forest produce. Products like lac, tamarind, kodo, kutki, chironji, mahua, karanj, silk, and tassar will be promoted through a detailed action plan to ensure timely implementation and direct benefits to farmers and forest-produce collectors.
Kisan Pathshaala and video-based training to boost rural economy
The CM said that the government is taking strong steps to give national and global recognition to Jharkhand’s forest produce. He emphasized providing farmers with training, technical support, and opportunities for alternative agriculture.
He directed officials to strengthen Kisan Pathshaala (Farmers’ Schools) and develop video-based training modules to help farmers learn modern agricultural practices, conservation techniques, and value-addition methods. He said these initiatives will help rural and tribal communities improve their traditional farming systems and boost incomes.
