Ranchi, June 7: Chief Minister Champai Soren today swung into action soon after the marathon Lok Sabha elections were over.

He directed the Commercial Tax Department to take all appropriate steps to achieve the target of Rs 6,000 crore of revenue collection in the first quarter of the current financial year. He said that the work of revenue collection should be expedited.

The Chief Minister was reviewing the revenue collection by the Commercial Tax Department today.

Rs 3500 cr collected against Rs 6000 cr target

On this occasion, the Commercial Tax Department informed him that in the first quarter of the current financial year, a tax of Rs 3500 crore has been collected as compared to the target of revenue collection of Rs 6000 crore.

Notably, the Commercial Tax Department has set a target of earning revenue of Rs 26000 crore in the financial year 2024-25.

Important instructions on GST-related assessment

The Chief Minister asked the Commercial Tax Department to prepare a comparative report by obtaining GST-related assessment in the context of states like Odisha, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Bengal. On this occasion, the Commercial Tax Department informed him that an amount of Rs 165 crore was provided by the Government of India in the financial year 2021-22 as GST compensation, but till now the payment of the due amount is pending.

One Time Settlement Scheme

The Commercial Tax Secretary informed the Chief Minister that efforts are being made by the department to increase revenue through the One Time Settlement Scheme. He urged the Chief Minister to give necessary instructions towards filling the vacant posts of Additional Commissioner and Joint Commissioner in the Commercial Tax Department.

Action against guilty officers

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand government has approved the proposal to stop one salary increment under the Jharkhand Government Servant Rules 2016 against Ram Pravesh Kumar, the then Circle Officer, Baliapur, Dhanbad.

It has also given its nod to stop the pension of Chandrashekhar Singh, who was facing departmental action for irregularities during his posting as BDO Sonvarsha. The allegations against him were found to be true after retirement.
