Ranchi, March 5: The Jharkhand Government today transferred CM’s Principal Secretary Vinay Kumar Chaubey, a 1999 batch IAS officer, to the Panchayati Raj department.

Former Chief Minister Hemant Soren appointed Chaubey as his principal secretary after taking over the state’s reins in 2019. Chaubey was considered a confidante of Hemant Soren and handled two crucial departments—Urban Development and Excise—in addition to his role in the Chief Minister’s office.

Chaubey resigned after Hemant Soren quit following his arrest on January 31. However, Champai Soren reappointed him after he was sworn in as chief minister.  So, the new move has surprised the bureaucracy.

Notably, Chief Minister Champai Soren appointed Arava Rajkamal, a 2008 batch IAS officer, as his secretary a few days ago.

According to a notification issued by the personnel department, Rural Works Department Principal Secretary Ajoy Kumar Singh has been transferred to the health department. Rural Development Secretary Chandrashekhar has been given an additional charge for the rural works department.

Agriculture Secretary Abu Bakr Siddiqui has been shifted to the Mines department. Industries Secretary Jitendra Singh will replace Siddiqui in the agriculture department.
