Dhanbad, January 28: Coal India Limited (CIL) is all set to make age uniformity for dependents in recruitment on compassionate grounds.
The seven-member JBCCI-11 sub-committee has recommended amendments to the present age anomaly fixed on a gender basis.
45 years for both males and females
The sub-committee has recommended fixing an age limit of 45 years for both males and females (spouse and husband) in appointments on compassionate grounds in the company. At present, 45 years of age is fixed for a spouse to get recruited on compassionate grounds after the death of their husband.
But age is not limited for a male in getting a job on compassionate grounds (in case of a wife’s death). But now the sub-committee has recommended fixing 45 years of age for males, too.
Maximum age of 35 years for dependent
Besides this, an official said the sub-committee has also recommended fixing a maximum age of 35 years for the dependent of deceased employees to get a job in CIL on compassionate grounds.

The sub-committee has also defined the direct and indirect dependent of deceased employees. Son, wife, daughter, and adopted son come under direct dependent, while daughter-in-law, married daughter and son-in-law are considered indirect dependent.
AITUC member
JBCCI-11 alternative member Lakhan Lal Mahto (All India Trade Union Congress) said that trade unions (JBCCI members) wanted maximum coverage of dependents in recruitment on compassionate grounds. The recommendation would be put up before the Standardization Committee of JBCCI-11 for final approval, in which some amendments may be made.
The Sub-committee has recommended an age amendment based on the court’s ruling and practical requirements keeping in mind. Our aim is also to cover the maximum number of people,” said Lakhan Lal Mahto.
Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Union (RCMU) general secretary AK Jha, an alternative member of JBCCI-11, also supported the recommendation.
