Dhanbad, Jan 18: Thousands of Dhanbad Rail Division employees today held a massive demonstration before the divisional railway hospital against poor health facilities and staged a dharna for more than four hours in protest.

East Central Railway Karmchari Union (ECRKU) additional general secretary and Dhanbad Rail Division PNM in-charge Md Ziauddin while addressing the agitators said that despite raising the issues at a higher level, no step has been initiated for solution of the problem so far which has triggered resentment and employees have been forced to agitate.

Leaders hand over memorandum to CMS

After the demonstration, employees sat on a dharna in front of the Divisional Hospital at 10 am and continued till 2 pm. Later, a delegation of senior leaders handed over a memorandum to Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Dr DL Chourasia for early solution to health service problems.

Earlier in the morning, as per the pre-announced programme Railway employees under the banner of ECRKU reached the Divisional hospital in procession and sat on a dharna after holding a massive demonstration.

Besides Md Ziauddin, AIRF zonal secretary OP Sharma, ECRKU assistant general secretary Omprakash, central organizing secretary Netajee Subhash and Somen Dutta also addressed the employees.

Pathology, diagnostic tests defunct

On the occasion, while addressing Md Ziauddin charged that the health centres of division including Divisional Hospital are reeling under acute deficiencies. “There is no doctor at the health centre. There is a dearth of medicines. Pathology and diagnostic tests are completely defunct. Patients have to go to private clinics for an ultrasound and even ambulance does not reach in emergency”, he said.

Despite repeated requests, the hospital management does not conduct medical check-ups of sick employees. The employees have to face hardship in getting referred to tied-up private hospitals. Such a situation has compelled the employees to go on a stir path.

ECRKU divisional spokesperson NK Khawas said besides the central leaders all branch secretaries also addressed the employees during dharna.
