Dhanbad, April 5: Teachers and non-teaching staff of Baghmara College Baghmara, an affiliated unit of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad, are facing hand-to-mouth problems due to non-payment of salary for the past several months.

The salaries of teaching and non-teaching staff are paid from the signature of the college principal and secretary of the Governing Body (GB). Since the post of GB secretary is vacant, salary payments have been put on hold.

University Representative in GB

Earlier, when Dr LB Palibal, head of the commerce postgraduate department, was the University Representative (UR) in GB, the vice-chancellor empowered him to sign on financial transactions as at that time the regular GB of the college was not formed.

After Dr Palibal’s retirement, Dr Jitendra Aryan, political science postgraduate department, was made University Representative in the GB, and he was also authorised to sign financial papers.

But a few months back, Dr Aryan resigned from the UR post due to personal reasons, and recently, vice-chancellor Pawan Kumar Poddar made Dr Sarita Srivastava, principal of Gomia Degree College,  UR  in Baghmara College Baghmara GB.

Secretary to be selected among GB members

Since the regular GB of the college has been formed, the secretary will now be selected among the members.

Baghmara MLA Dhulu Mahto is president of  GB while  Dhanbad SDM Uday Rajak,  Teachers Representative,  University Representative  Dr Sarita Srivastava,  co-opted educationist of the area, Dr SKL Das for dean of the university, are members of it.

The GB meeting to select a secretary was postponed because Dhulu Mahto, the BJP Dhanbad Lok Sabha candidate, and SDM Uday Rajak were engaged in the election.
Though principal Dr Ranjan  Sinha is entitled to hold GB meetings along with the other four members, the selection of a secretary is the apple of discord.

A senior college teacher said that two names are making rounds in the institution’s circle for the post of secretary. The majority of college teachers want clean faces who deal with financial responsibility transparently.
