Jamshedpur, Feb 16: A 58-year-old woman was killed in an IED blast that took place in the Naxal-infested Goelkera Thana area in West Singhbhum district about 140 km away from here on Thursday.
Identified as Randaya Purti, the victim had gone to collect firewood from the Maradiri jungle in Goelkera on Thursday morning when she fell victim to a pressure IED planted by the Naxals, targeting police and paramilitary forces.
As the scene of the Naxal-sponsored act was deep inside a forest stretch there in Goelkera, the police and paramilitary forces could not recover the body immediately. The police accompanied by paramilitary forces went to the spot on Friday and recovered the body.

Having recovered the body, the police have sent it to the Chakradharpur sub-divisional hospital for postmortem.

Massive presence of Naxals in Kolhan forest division
It may be mentioned here that a big squad of CPI-Maoist rebels has sneaked into the dense Kolhan forest division inclusive of Goelkera since January last year. While making surreptitious entry into the forest, the Naxals, including some so-called leader Misir Besra had planted an unspecified number of IEDs across the strategic locations in the Kolhan forest, fearing combat by the police and paramilitary forces.
Though the police and paramilitary forces have started operations similar to ones like flushing out the rats from the rat holes, the coward Naxals continue to trigger the IEDs causing harm to the innocent villagers as well as the police and paramilitary forces.
The brave paramilitary forces are continuing the anti-insurgency operations there as the West Singhbhum SP, Ashutosh Sekhar is determined to flush out all the Naxals from the hideout.
