Daltonganj, April 13: A meticulous medical plan has been drawn up for the polling parties, security forces, and voters in Palamu.
Civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar, district epidemiologist Dr Anup Kr Singh, district programme manager Deepak Kumar Gupta and others have worked out a two-pronged medical plan with maximum utilisation of medicines and a minimum of its wastage.
12 medicines for common ailments
In this Lok Sabha election, the 12 medicines for common ailments will be in the hands of health workers like Sahiyas, CHOs, ANMs, etc., and medications will be readily and promptly available to anyone—polling personnel, security forces, or voters.
The civil surgeon has done homework on the number of dedicated beds, the availability of oral and injectable drugs, saline drip, blood, ambulance, and a congenial atmosphere of all being well.

3 lakh ORS packets
Considering the severity of summer in May, when Palamu will poll twice, on 13 and 20, the civil surgeon has asked for 3 lakh packets of the ORS for rehydration.
Similarly, the civil surgeon has sought medicines in the range of 1.89 lakh to 1.90 lakh to beat fever, vomiting, and diarrhoea.
A one-page explanation of heat waves, how they affect humans, what to do during the affectation period, and what not to do to avoid climate change’s impact on human health has been prepared to be given to the polling personnel and for mass awareness at the 1796 polling booths.
Home recipe for rehydration
The civil surgeon said, “Avoid cold drinks and tea. Go for a home recipe for rehydration. Have homemade rehydration with salt as salty as your teardrops. Drink isotonic water only. We have ORS packets, and it is for one and all.”
District programme manager Deepak Kumar Gupta said, “Under the supervision of the civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar, we have submitted our medical plan for the coming Lok Sabha election.”
The methodology used by the civil surgeon and his team here is management, symptom, and treatment. Management involves human resources and their coordination. Treatment must be proper and without any loss of time. The symptoms of heat strokes are well-defined.
The civil surgeon does not push any panic button, nor does it throw up its hands as to how to go about it. It knows well how to manage medicines for the needy and how to bring the needy to better health care.
Its mission is single. It is a safe and healthy duty of one and all. It seeks the common man’s help. It asks members of the panchayat bodies to extend all cooperation.
