Dhanbad, March 16: Indian National Trade Union Cong (INTUC) national president, Dr G. Sanjeeva Reddy, has recommended trade union leader Suresh Chandra Jha as the Congress candidate for the Dhanbad Lok Sabha seat.
G Sanjeeva Reddy, in his letter to All India Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, has said that the Dhanbad Lok Sabha constituency is a labour-dominated area covering BCCL, ECL, DVC and other industries. The majority of voters are workers and their family members.

The INTUC president said in his letter, “ If the Congress Party considers fielding a trade union leader from this constituency, then there is every chance of the Cong winning this seat.”
Sanjeeva Reddy has pointed out that Suresh Chandra Jha, organizing secretary of INTUC and former general secretary and vice-president of the Dhanbad district Congress Committee, could be a suitable candidate.

The Congress, which is likely to win the Dhanbad seat again under the Mahagathbandhan alliance, has yet to announce its candidate for this seat.
Late Ramnarayan Sharma won Dhanbad in 1971
A senior office bearer of the Congress state committee said that Suresh Chandra Jha’s name has neither been recommended by the district body nor the state committee. But Dhanbad is the bastion of the Congress’ trade union leader. The Late Ramnarayan Sharma won it in 1971, and Chandrashekhar Dubey, alias Dadai Dubey, won in 2004. After INTUC national president Sanjeeva Reddy recommended it, the high command discussed it seriously.
“There is no doubt that this time only local leaders will be fielded from Dhanbad seats, as in the 2019 election an outsider, Kirti Azad, was given a ticket and lost his deposit,” the Congress leader said.
Suresh Chandra Jha has been active in Congress since 1974 and has influenced miners of BCCL and ECL collieries.
