Jamshedpur, March 5: A team from the Jharkhand Excise department busted an illicit ‘foreign’ liquor factory at Bhuiandih village under Chandil Thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Tuesday.
Supported by the local police, the team arrested six persons and confiscated a huge number of finished and semi-finished liquor from the unauthorised factory.
Revealing about the breakthrough, Excise superintendent, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Vimal Lakda said that the unauthorised factory had been running at a residential house in Bhuiandih village for the past one year.
Racketeer on the run
“Though the raiding team succeeded in arresting six persons from the factory, the house owner and the one who was running the racket are yet to be arrested. We are trying to detect these persons who have gone underground having come to know about the raid, ” said Lakda while talking to The Jharkhand Story.

The Excise superintendent pointed out all the six arrested are residents of the Mango area of Jamshedpur, suggesting that the racketeer must also be a resident of Mango.
235 bottles of IMFL seized
Giving an account of the seized materials, the senior Excise department officer stated that the team has seized 26 cartons of the finished liquor, consisting of 235 bottles of ‘IMFL’ (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) and 14 jars containing coloured spirits to fill up about 280 bottles.
“Apart from the studio liquor, the raiding team has seized huge quantities of corks, labels of different popular brands of foreign’ liquor and also equipment for manufacturing the spurious stuff.
Lakda said they would try to arrest the house owner and also the racketeer, adding that they would also send samples of confiscated liquor stock for chemical tests at a lab in Ranchi.
