Jamshedpur, Jan 16: Properties worth crores of rupees were destroyed in a fire that broke out at an industrial unit in Adityapur industrial area late on Monday night.

The devastating fire was brought under control after five fire-tenders from Adityapur and Jamshedpur were pressed into service.

The company which caught fire is Tata Motors Ltd’s ancillary unit Soma Puf Metal Pvt Ltd located at phase-1 in the industrial area.

Short circuit caused fire

From the initial investigation, it is learned that the fire was caused due to a short circuit at about 10 pm and had spread across the unit in a very short period.

At the sight of the fire, the factory workers tried to put out the flames by using fire extinguishers kept in the factory premises. But as there were fibre materials kept all around the factory, the fire continued to spread unabatedly.

No injuries, management estimating loss

The company management had informed the fire brigades in Adityapur and in Jamshedpur, leading to as many as five fire tenders rushing to the aflame factory from Tata Steel and Tata Motors in Jamshedpur. Finally, the fire could be brought under control by 2.00 am today.

An official of the ill-fated ancillary unit said the factory was completely gutted, causing a loss of crores of rupees, but fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

The official pointed out the company management is estimating the exact extent of loss in the fire.
