Dhanbad, January 6: After seven years, the Dhanbad- Chandrapura (DC) passenger train of Dhanbad Rail Division will run again starting January 10.
Giving this information to media persons, Amresh Kumar, senior divisional commercial manager (Sr DCM) of Dhanbad Rail Division, said that the Ministry of Railways had approved the movement of the D-C passenger train from January 10. In the new schedule, the train will run six days a week.
The Dhanbad – Chandrapura passenger train was once considered the lifeline for people in the region.
Railway Board
However, the Railway Board suspended the movement of the trains on June 15, 2017, on the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) recommendation following the danger of fire under the railway track between the 34 km Dhanbad- Chandrapura line.
Though the Railway Board had suspended 26 passengers and express trains on the route due to an underground fire, two years later, on February 25, 2019, the track was opened again, and almost all suspended trains except the D-C passenger train began running.

Public demand
Demand for starting D-C trains had become a major issue of public movement.
Following a campaign of local representatives, especially Dhanbad MP PN Singh, Giridih MP Chandra Prakash Choudhary, Dhanbad Sadar MLA Raj Sinha and Baghmara MLA Dhulu Mahto Ministry of the Railway has given the green signal to the D-C train.
“Finally, our efforts paid dividends. We met the railway minister, the general manager of the East Central Railway (ECR) zone and several times the Divisional Railway Manager of the Dhanbad Rail Division for starting the D-C train in the interest of the region’s people. Our efforts worked out,” said BJP MLA Raj Sinha.
Train schedule
Under the new schedule, the D-C passenger special train (03331) will start from Chandrapura station at 7.10 am and reach Dhanbad railway station at 9.40 am.
The train no.03332 will start from Dhanbad station at 5.05 pm and reach Chandrapura station at 7.45 pm. The train will be comprised of five general coaches.
