Ranchi, July 14: In a bold stride towards streamlined, paperless governance, the Jharkhand government has launched a comprehensive initiative to digitise all government offices by January 2026. The move, led by Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari, is set to transform traditional bureaucratic workflows into a modern, tech-driven e-office system.
High-Level Review and Clear Instructions
At a key review meeting on Monday, Tiwari met with department heads to evaluate the progress of the “e-Office Light” initiative. Stressing the need for accuracy and efficiency, she instructed the IT Department to ensure the system is completely error-free and operational across all departments before the deadline.
Technical teams from RailTel, NIC, and ZAPIT, who are supporting the project, were tasked with developing a detailed implementation timeline. Security was highlighted as a top priority, with the Chief Secretary insisting that all precautions be taken to protect sensitive government data from cyber threats.

E-Office Already in Action
The digitisation process has already begun in four key departments:
- Personnel, Administrative Reforms and Official Language
- Finance
- IT and e-Governance
- Higher Education
Staff in these departments are undergoing training, with official e-office email accounts already being created. Other departments are expected to follow suit quickly, with the Chief Secretary urging immediate action.
Scan and Upload – No More Paper Trails
To kickstart the transition, all existing physical files must be scanned and uploaded as PDFs. “We cannot allow digital decisions to depend on paper files,” said Tiwari, calling for full digital accessibility and remote working capabilities within the system.
