Ranchi, Oct 31: In compliance with a significant directive from the Jharkhand High Court, the state government has released a revised seniority list for 332 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs). The Home, Prison and Disaster Management Department issued the updated list on Friday, which will come into effect from January 1, 2016.

Previous Lists Cancelled Following Court Directive

The Jharkhand High Court had earlier ordered the government to cancel the previously published seniority lists of DSPs appointed under the advertisement dated September 11, 2010 (originally released on July 1, 2010).
This ruling stemmed from the court’s order dated July 28, 2025, in W.P.(S) No. 2297/2020 and W.P.(S) No. 5026/2021, wherein the High Court instructed the state to re-determine seniority strictly according to the marks obtained in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examination conducted under the same advertisement.

Seniority to Be Based on JPSC Examination Marks

In accordance with the court’s order, the Home Department has prepared the revised seniority list by ranking officers strictly as per their JPSC examination scores.

Notification No.-4157, Dated-31.10.2025 (1)

This revision will directly impact the promotions, postings and other service benefits of the concerned DSPs, ensuring that seniority reflects the true merit order determined by the JPSC.

A senior official from the department noted that the updated list was published to ensure transparency, merit-based progression, and full compliance with judicial directions.
