Ranchi, May 3: The Jharkhand High Court on Friday allowed former Chief Minister Hemant Soren to attend the rites of his uncle for some time under police custody.

Ban on speaking to media

Refusing to grant him provisional bail, the court gave strict instructions that while attending the Shraddha ritual to be held on May 6, Hemant Soren will not talk to the media nor hold any political discussion.

Soren, accused of money laundering through land scam, had applied for provisional bail.

Earlier, on April 30, the special court of Ranchi PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) had refused to grant provisional bail to Hemant Soren.

Thereafter, he filed an appeal in the High Court challenging this order of the court. In his appeal, he had sought provisional bail for three days from the High Court. In the petition, he had requested the court to allow him to attend the Shraddha rites of his uncle.

Notably, Raja Ram Soren, elder brother of JMM supremo Shibu Soren (Guru ji), passed away on Saturday last.
