Jharkhand HC pulls up state over delay in local body polls

Ranchi, Sept 2: The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday heard a contempt petition filed in connection with the conduct of local body elections.

On the court’s direction, the state Chief Secretary and the Urban Development Secretary appeared in person.

Justice Anand Sen expressed displeasure over the delay in initiating the election process despite the court’s earlier order.

The officials present were directed to ensure compliance with the court’s directions.

The matter will now be taken up for detailed hearing on September 10. The contempt petition was filed by outgoing councillor Roshni Khalkho.
