PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, April 13: Jharkhand is set to witness a sharp rise in temperatures, with the Meteorological Department warning that the mercury may soar up to 43°C later this week.

The current weather pattern is influenced by a persistent trough extending from northwest Bihar to Manipur at 0.9 km above mean sea level, along with another trough running from northeast Bihar to coastal Gangetic West Bengal at 1.5 km above mean sea level.

Dry conditions across state intensify heat buildup

Dry weather conditions have prevailed across the state over the past 24 hours, leading to a buildup of heat.

The highest maximum temperature recorded was 39.8°C at Daltonganj, followed by 39°C in Jamshedpur. Bokaro recorded 38.1°C, while Ranchi recorded 34.8°C. The temperature reached 37.3°C in Saraikela, while the lowest minimum temperature was 15.2°C in Khunti.

Residents advised to take precautions

Residents across the state are beginning to feel the impact of the rising heat. “It’s becoming unbearable during the afternoons. Stepping out even for a short time feels exhausting,” said Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Ranchi.

In Jamshedpur, Sunita Agarwal shared similar concerns: “The heat has suddenly intensified. We are relying heavily on coolers and staying indoors as much as possible.”

Weather officials have advised people to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions, as heatwave conditions are likely to intensify further in the coming days.
