SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, Nov 26: The Jharkhand High Court has taken cognizance of the reported entry of a jackal into the surgical ICU of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH).
Taking the incident seriously, the court has directed Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Ajay Kumar Singh to conduct an inquiry.

District Administration Swings Into Action

Following the High Court’s order, the district administration moved into action.
A team of senior officials from the Building Division Department visited the medical college today and inspected the broken boundary wall through which the jackal reportedly entered.

They also held a meeting with SNMMCH superintendent/principal Dr. D.K. Gindauria, hospital senior manager Dr. C.S. Suman, and other officials regarding the issue.

Jackal Seen Sitting Inside Surgical ICU

The jackal was found sitting inside the surgical ICU late at night in November.
The animal fled when attendants of admitted patients raised an alarm.
Sources said that around half a dozen serious patients were admitted in the ICU at that time.

Broken Boundary Wall Blamed for Animal Entry

Hospital senior manager Dr. C.S. Suman said the matter concerns the Building Division, as animals can easily enter the hospital campus due to a broken boundary wall at the backside.
He added that the hospital administration had raised this issue earlier as well, but no action was taken to repair the damaged wall.

“The jackal might have entered from that broken boundary wall,” Dr. Suman said.
