Ranchi, Nov. 28: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), investigating the mining scam in Jharkhand, continued to grill Sahibganj SP Naushad Alam till late in the evening.
The ED sleuths began to interrogate Alam after the latter reached the central agency’s office at 10,30 am.
Why has he been summoned?
The agency summoned him to investigate his role in instigating an ED witness Bijay Hansda to retract his statement in an illegal mining case and filing a case against other ED witnesses and officials.
The ED, during the investigation, found that Hansda had recently travelled to Delhi. “The purpose of this visit was to present his side in the case of ‘Pankaj Mishra vs Bijay Hansda’ going on in the Supreme Court. Pankaj Mishra had challenged the FIR lodged by the Jharkhand High Court in the Nimbu Pahad case and the order of CBI investigation into the role of Bijay Hansda. The Supreme Court had ordered Bijay Hansda to present his side in this case.
The police officials, including Alam, allegedly arranged his ticket and made other arrangements to send him to Delhi in this case.
