Jamshedpur, July 2: The Jharkhand government has appointed new police chiefs for two key districts in the Kolhan region, with IPS officers Ehtesham Waqarib and Manoj Swargiary assuming charge in East Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan, respectively, as part of a major administrative reshuffle.
Ehtesham Waqarib Assumes Charge as East Singhbhum SSP
Ehtesham Waqarib formally took charge as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of East Singhbhum late on Wednesday at the district police headquarters in Jamshedpur.
Senior police officers and personnel welcomed him on his arrival. Soon after assuming office, he reviewed preliminary administrative matters and interacted with officers.
Waqarib is expected to focus on strengthening law and order, enhancing public safety, ensuring effective policing, and improving coordination among various police units across the district.
Manoj Swargiary Appointed SP of Seraikela-Kharsawan
Manoj Swargiary, a 2018-batch IPS officer who was serving as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Jamtara, has been appointed as the new SP of Seraikela-Kharsawan.
He replaces Nidhi Dwivedi following the state government’s decision to reshuffle senior police officers.
Appointment Comes Amid Law and Order Concerns
Swargiary’s appointment comes amid heightened concern over the law-and-order situation in Seraikela-Kharsawan following the high-profile Himanshu Singh murder case, which drew criticism from opposition parties and social organisations.
The government is looking to strengthen policing and restore public confidence through the leadership change.
Known for his disciplined and proactive approach, Swargiary has built a reputation for effective crime control and maintaining law and order during his previous postings. He is expected to prioritise crime prevention, speedy disposal of pending cases, and stronger police-public engagement.
Government Aims to Strengthen Policing in Kolhan
The appointments of Waqarib and Swargiary are being seen as significant moves by the Jharkhand government to reinforce policing and improve law and order across the strategically important Kolhan region.
Notably, the law-and-order situation has deteriorated in both districts in recent months, with frequent incidents of murder, assault, snatching and other criminal activities reported.
