Jamshedpur, Jan 16: Marking the auspicious Makar Sankranti, the Utkal Association held a ‘Jhoti’ competition among the housewives, giving them an opportunity to show off their expertise in performing their day-to-day household religious activities.

Over 40 women participated in the competition which was organised by the association’s Sri Jagannath temple committee amidst festivity.

Like Rangoli, the Jhoti is also a kind of artistic form that the women in the Odiya community do while performing the Puja of Goddess Laxmi at their homes, praying for prosperity.
