Jamshedpur, June 19: The southwest monsoon has unleashed its full intensity over Jharkhand, bringing record-breaking rainfall across several districts.

Jamshedpur recorded a staggering 247 mm of rainfall, the highest in the state, followed closely by Seraikela with 237 mm, and Ranchi with over 150 mm of rain in the past 24 hours.

The heavy downpour has led to a significant dip in temperatures, with the mercury falling below 25°C in most parts of the state — a rare occurrence for mid-June.

Forecast: More Rains Ahead

According to the Meteorological Centre, extremely heavy rainfall is likely today (June 19) in isolated pockets of South-Western and Central Jharkhand.

Very heavy rainfall is also expected over North-Central and adjoining North-Eastern districts, while heavy rainfall is predicted in South-Eastern and North-Western parts.

Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds (30–40 km/h) may occur in isolated areas across the state.

For June 20, very heavy rainfall is likely over North-Western Jharkhand, with heavy showers expected in North-Central and North-Eastern regions, along with thunderstorm activity.

On June 21, heavy rainfall is forecast for North-Western and North-Eastern districts, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning.

Monsoon Progress

The southwest monsoon has advanced further, now covering Jharkhand completely along with the remaining parts of Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and parts of Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and East Uttar Pradesh.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) currently passes through Barmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Gwalior, Khajuraho, Sonbhadra, Gaya, and 30.5°N/82.5°E.

A well-marked low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and its adjoining regions persists and is expected to move slowly northwestward across Jharkhand in the next 24 hours, further intensifying rainfall activity.
