Jamshedpur, Sept 24: Four youths, including Istika Singh, daughter of Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh, were killed in a fatal road accident on Marine Drive under Sonari police station area in the early hours of Thursday.
The accident occurred around 3 am, when the Swift car carrying the four youths rammed into a trailer parked along the roadside. The collision was so severe that the car was completely mangled, trapping all four occupants inside.
The deceased have been identified as Istika Singh, Sarthak Agrawal, Naman Gupta and Vanshika Khandelwal. Two men and two women were travelling in the car, according to the information available.
The impact of the collision alerted people in the vicinity, following which local residents informed the police. A team from Sonari police station reached the spot and began the rescue operation.
The severely damaged vehicle made the operation difficult. Police, with the assistance of local residents, reportedly worked for nearly one-and-a-half hours to extricate the four occupants from the mangled car.
However, all four had died of their injuries by the time they were brought out.
Police took the bodies into custody and initiated the process for post-mortem examinations.
Police probe circumstances of crash
Preliminary information suggests that the Swift may have been travelling at high speed before it collided with the stationary trailer. However, police have not yet reached a final conclusion about the exact cause of the accident.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area to establish the sequence of events, including the speed of the vehicle and the circumstances in which the trailer was parked along the roadside.
Police are also examining other factors that may have contributed to the fatal collision.

The deaths triggered grief among the families, friends and residents of Jamshedpur. The incident also drew widespread attention after it emerged that the daughter of a serving state minister was among those killed.

The police investigation is continuing, and further details are expected to emerge as investigators establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
