Daltonganj, Jan 20: The post-mortem house in the MMCH Daltonganj is time-worn. It lacks the basic ingredients essential for a post-mortem house.
Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Anil Kumar speaking to this correspondent said, “There is an urgent need to renovate the existing post-mortem house. It has decayed with the passage of time as it lacks many essential components.”
There is no mortuary here nor any mortuary fridge nor mortuary cabinet or mortuary chamber. İt’s a must, said the civil surgeon.
Only last night a young advanced stage pregnant woman at the MMCH Daltonganj Pinky Kumari died and it was a task for keeping her body.
CS to urge DC for renovation
It is easy to have a body in winter but in summer there is a fear of its decomposing.
Once a mortuary is established, a mortuary assistant is required.
Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar said he would urge DC Shashi Ranjan to issue an order to initiate the renovation work of the post-mortem house.

There is no viscera rake and preserving viscera is a huge responsibility.
Viscera holds its own importance and its preservation has to be very flawless like its sampling, seal and chemical used in the preservation etc. Viscera examination decides the fate of the legal battle in the court of law.
No post-mortem at night
There is one more issue with the post-mortem here at night in Daltonganj.
Post-mortem at night here is very rare. İnadequate light is a major factor for not having post-mortem at night.
A common man’s body remains without autopsy for the whole night just waiting for daylight to come first.
Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar said that for post-mortem in litigated cases day light is preferred while for cases of road accidents, train accidents etc, post-mortem at night is permissible.
Death in communal clashes, drowning, poisoning, death by suicide in typical situations etc has to have daylight post-mortem instead of the post-mortem at night.
Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar said, “Our effort is to ease the suffering of the family which lines up for post-mortem of its near and dear ones. A night-long wait for the day to break when the post-mortem will be done is an excruciating experience. This we want to reduce or lessen if facilities for post mortem at night are added to.”
