Jamshedpur, Feb 8: Well-known Dhanbad-based naturalist A K Sahay, who is also an expert in bird photography has initiated a nature education campaign for students in Jamshedpur-based schools and colleges.
NML Kerala Public School
As a part of the campaign, the first nature workshop was conducted at the NML Kerala Public School in Burmamines on Wednesday, February 7.
The workshop organised under the auspices of the Indian Bird Photography Society (IBPS) saw the participation of around 100 students.
Noted environmentalist Raju Kumar was the chief guest. He spoke on key concepts like ecology, conservation and food chain while A K Sahay spoke on the importance of birds in the ecology of our planet.
Netaji Subhas University
Today, the second workshop as a part of the nature education campaign was conducted at the Netaji Subhas University on the outskirts of steel city.
The campaign consisted of a display of some quality bird images taken by Sahay across the country.
Sahay also highlighted the importance of birds in ecological balance and also in augmenting the vegetation cover by dispersal of seeds and sampling of trees.

A quiz was also organised related to birds during the workshop. A local youth Kishor Kumar conducted the quiz.
The winners were given away prizes and a certificate of merit signed by Sahay and the principal of the respective institutions.
Upcoming workshops at Srinath University and Kolhan University
As a part of the nature education campaign, a similar workshop which will last for one hour will be organised at the Srinath University in Adityapur on February 10, Saturday
The last workshop of the ongoing campaign will be conducted at the Jamshedpur Co-operative College, a constituent college under Kolhan University on February 12, Monday.
Inspired by APJ Abdul Kalam
A passionate wildlife photographer Sahay said that he has initiated such nature education campaign inspired by late President APJ Abdul Kalam.
“When I had met the then President in the year 2011 he asked me to conduct nature education campaign in schools and colleges across the country. I was very much inspired by his words and work ” he said.
So far Sahay has visited more than 25 educational institutions in Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu including prestigious IIT Madras and St Xavier’s College, Ranchi.
Avian Gems of Lower Himalayas
Notably, Sahay a well-known bird photographer from Jharkhand had recently visited several bird-rich areas in the lower Himalayas in pursuit of some beautiful birds that are not seen in the plains of India.
He captured excellent images of some rare birds in places like Laptanchar, Rongtong, Sattal and Bhimtal.
He has also made a quality PPT of those images titled – Avian Gems of Lower Himalayas – which earned him appreciation and several accolades.
