Dhanbad, June 12: A 10-day National Medical Commission (NMC) yoga training course began for MBBS students at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad on Wednesday.
Nodal officer of the programme Dr. Phani Bhushan Singh (HoD physiology) said that besides 100 1st year MBBS students and 50 interns, this year 50 Para medical students are also participating in the 10-day camp from June 12 to June 21.
Yoga course compulsory for 1st year MBBS students
Dr. Phani Bhushan Singh said that though the course is compulsory for 1st year MBBS professionals and interns, the college management has opened it to all interested MBBS students, and in large numbers, they are participating.
The National Medical Commission has introduced compulsory Yoga training in the MBBS foundation course for 1st year and interns.

NMC guidelines
The nodal officer Dr Singh said that as per NMC guidelines, Yoga training is held one hour from 6.30 am to 7.30 am daily. Yoga instructors Prabhakar Kumar and Neha Kapoor are imparting to students and interns.
SNMMCH principal cum superintendent Dr. Jyotiranjan Prasad, who also attended the course while inaugurating the 10-day programme, exhorted the students and Interns to take the yoga course seriously not because it is compulsory but also for personal and patient health benefits.
Yoga for healthy life
“It is of course part of the curriculum but, at the same time, yoga has become the need of the hour for a healthy life in the present changing lifestyle of people. You learn it in the interest of social welfare so that you can teach others in society,” said Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad.
Nodal officer Dr Phani Bhushan Singh, while speaking on the occasion, urged the participants to take lessons seriously so that they can convey the benefit of yoga to patients.
Dr Leena Singh, Dr Vinit Tigga, physiotherapist Somanand Jha, and Rajkumar were also present at the inaugural function of Yoga training.
