Jamshedpur, March 5: Three paramilitary jawans were injured as they were exposed to an IED explosion triggered by the Naxal outfit CPI-Maoist at Baliba village under the Chhotanagra thana area in West Singhbhum on Wednesday morning.
Identified as assistant commander GJ Sai, troopers BT Rao and Dharmendra Kumar, the injured jawans belong to CRPF’s 197 Battalion and were carrying out a search operation in the difficult terrain as the explosion took place.
Immediately after the incident, the CRPF authority concerned called in a chopper at the place of occurrence and made the trio to be airlifted to a Ranchi-based hospital for treatment.

West Singhbhum SP Ashutosh Shekhar confirmed the IED explosion triggered by the Naxals who are active in the Saranda region.
According to the senior police officer, the CRPF and the police had started the search operation in Jeraikela since Tuesday evening on the intelligence input that an unspecified number of Naxals were hiding in Jeraikela and the adjoining Chhotanagra police station area.
During the search operation, which was resumed after the IED blast, the police and paramilitary forces had recovered two IEDs, each weighing 10 kgs, from the Chhotanagra police station area. The IEDs were detonated by the bomb disposal squad later on.
