Daltonganj, April 29: The week-long pre-monsoon census of the major herbivores and carnivores, starting from April 24 in the tiger reserve Palamu, offers a variety of creatures.

In charge forester Pramjit Tiwary of Bareysanr Range said, “My team and I came across a 7-foot-long python. It was just 2 or 3 meters away from our team. We didn’t disturb it, nor did it disturb us.”

A leopard growl was heard, but it was wise not to move in the direction of the sound, added Tiwary.

Pug marks and scat of hyenas were discovered, too.

No pug mark or scat of the tiger could be found.

The team did find a sloth bear, and they got alert because no one knew the bear’s mood.

Wild boar was also sighted.

The 7th and last day of the pre-monsoon census is dedicated to sighting the vultures and other birds.
