Dhanbad, Jan 4: The newly elected body of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University Teachers Association (BBMKUTA) will make significant decisions in its first executive meeting scheduled at the university Academic Block tomorrow.

Newly elected general secretary

The newly elected general secretary, Dr Amulya Suman Beck, said there are many issues to discuss at the meeting. So, a particular agenda still needs to be fixed, but after consultation with office bearers, we would decide the issues on a priority basis.

The election of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University Teachers Association was held on December 20. But due to Christmas leave, a meeting of the elected body could not be held. The president, general secretary, five secretaries and treasurer were elected unopposed. Polling was held only for the selection of five vice-president posts.

BBMKUTU challenges

“At present, challenges before the newly elected body are the confirmation of some teachers, pending due promotion of teachers, their increments, and ensuring coverage of health schemes of the government and others,” said General Secretary Dr Beck.

The BBMKUTA  general secretary said that the name of the association’s spokesperson would also be finalised at the meeting. However, he denied that any newly elected office bearer (vice-presidents- secretaries) would be given additional charge of spokesperson.

One of the vice presidents, out of five, said she had sought a vote from university teachers on some of the common agenda. “Of course, we would put up our agenda at the meeting for implementation through association, she added.

FUTAJ election

Over hosting the election of the Federation of Universities Teachers Association of Jharkhand (FUTAJ) as promised by the BBMKUTA’s previous committee, Dr Beck said that is in his mind, and, in due course, he would discuss it with other office bearers.

Following the retirement of FUTAJ president Prof NK Singh ( Sido Kanhu Murmu University, Dumka), the president’s position in the university teachers’ body has been vacant since May 2023. Dr Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary, general secretary of BBMKUTA’s previous committee, had in 2022 assured FUTAJ to host the state body election.
