Dhanbad, April 11: Expert technocrats of BIT Sindri and other institutions today shared their views on the importance of Geosynthetics in the mining area during a day-long workshop on ‘Mining Projects with Geosynthetics’.

The workshop was organised by the civil engineering department at Dr Rajendra Prasad Hall of the institution as part of the Dimond jubilee celebrations of BIT Sindri.

Prof (Dr.) Pankaj Rai, Director BIT Sindri, was the chief guest, and Dr P K Singh, head of the Mining Engineering Department, was the guest of honour,

Dr  Sanjay Shukla, founding Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Geosynthetics and Ground Engineering by Springer, Switzerland, was the chief speaker at the function. While addressing the workshop, Dr. Sanjay Shukla said that geosynthetics plays a crucial role in mining projects due to its cost-effectiveness and environmentally friendly attributes.

“Liners are critical components within these facilities. They can be designed as single composite systems or double composite systems incorporating a leakage detection layer,” he said.

Earlier in the morning, Dr. Jitu Kujur, head of the Civil Engineering Department. Welcomed the guests, and Dr.Maya Rajnarayan Ray presented the framework of the event.

Chief guest Prof (Dr.) Pankaj Rai accentuated the importance of Geosynthetics in today’s world.

The workshop attracted PhD, postgraduate as well as undergraduate students from different colleges in large numbers. Dr. Abhijeet Anand proposed a vote of thanks.

Prof. (Dr.) Vikrama Pandey, Prof. (Dr.) Uday Kumar Singh, Prof. Prafulla Kumar Sharma, (Dr.) Brahmdeo Yadav, (Dr.) Sumit Kumar, (Dr.) Komal Kumari, (Dr.) Abhijit Anand, Prof. Nipen Kumar Das, Prof. Prakash Kumar Orang and, Prof. Iqbal Shaikh, Adarsh Kumar made the workshop successful.
