Dhanbad, June 17: Students of BIT Sindri took a pledge to make drug abuse free society and carry on a campaign of awakening and educating people against it.
At the daylong Special Session organized by BIT Sindri Career Development Centre (CDC) at C-51 auditorium on Drug Abuse, the speakers emphasized the critical need for awareness and education in combating the growing menace of drug abuse. They urged BITians to come forward and take proactive steps to prevent it.
Kumar Manohar Munjal, Intelligence officer, Narcotic Control Bureau, Ranchi was chief speaker of the Special Session.
Sharing his experience in fighting drug trafficking and abuse, he shed light on causes, effects and preventive measures of drug abuse. NCB officer Munjal underlined the responsibility in three sections: students, parents and teachers in preventing drug abuse.

He called upon students to educate himself about drug abuse, encourage peers to stay away from it and support those struggling from substance abuse. He also suggested students engage in sports activities.
Munjal said parents must have open and honest communication with their children about the risks and consequences of drug abuse. “Be aware of children’s activities, friends and whereabouts carefully”, he said.
The NCB officer also suggested to the teachers’ community to incorporate drug abuse education into the school curriculum for awareness of students. Observe students’ behaviour and academic performance to identify any signs of drug abuse and intervene early.
BIT Sindri Career Development Centre (CDC) chairman Prof Ghanshyam proposed a vote of thanks to NCB intelligence officer Kumar Manohar Munjal for his valuable insights and dedication to the cause. He also thanked participants and urged them to apply the knowledge they gained in the Special Session in combating drug abuse.
On the occasion, students and teachers of BIT Sindri under Prof Ghanshyam took a solemn pledge to stay vigilant against drug abuse, support those in need, and promote a healthy, drug-free community.
Prof Ghanshyam said that the session was highly informative and left a lasting impact on all attendees, reinforcing the roles of students, parents, and teachers in preventing drug abuse and fostering a healthier, drug-free society.
