Jamshedpur, Aug 24: BJP activists on Saturday evening burnt chief minister Hemant Soren’s effigy at Sher-e-Punjab Chowk in Adityapur to protest lathi charge in Ranchi on Friday.
While setting the effigy on fire, the saffron brigade shouted slogans like “BJP Jindabad,” “Vande Mataram” and “Gali Gali Shor Hai, Hemant Soren Chor Hai.”
About 200 BJP activists gathered at the landmark Sher-e-Punjab Chowk near Satpathi Building carrying party flags and also an effigy made of straw.

As soon as the saffron brigade gathered at the square, a sizable number of policemen arrived there. After a brief spell of slogan shouting, the frenzied activists set the effigy on fire.
Having carried out the program, the activists including Sailendra Singh and Bobby Singh dispersed.
Thousands of BJP workers had travelled to Ranchi to participate in a party rally in the state capital. As the rally, “Akrosh Rally” was meant to protest against the alleged corrupt Hemant Soren government, the police had fortified the main thoroughfares there and had resorted to laathi charge on them.
At some points, the police had fired rubber bullets, causing several participants to sustain injuries.
Significantly, the Sher-e-Punjab Chowk where the BJP activists burnt the effigy of Hemant Soren is the constituency of former chief minister, Champai Soren.
