Jamshedpur, Dec 27: Burglars decamped with cash and jewellery worth over Rs 16 lakhs from a residential quarter in Bistupur on Thursday night.

What is concerning is that the theft took place in the vicinity of the residence of Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto and at a place which remains bustling with commuters.

The burglary has taken place at the residence of Bhavesh Chandra Pal located on Q-Road, just two quarters away from the residence of the Member of Parliament.

Victim discovers theft upon returning home

Pal who is a Tata Steel employee had gone along with family members to attend marriage ceremony of a relative in the evening.  On returning home back at about 9.30 pm, the victim found the back door was open and also lying open were his almirahs.

The burglars have taken away all the ornaments worth about Rs 15 lakhs and Rs 1.25 lakhs cash from the almirahs’ lockers, leaving the family members shocked.

Immediately after, Pal had informed the Bistupur thana leading the thana OC Umesh Thakur reach the spot.

As the OC was inspecting the crime scene, the DSP (CCR) Manoj Kumar Thakur too arrived at the scene.

Police suspect inside knowledge of family’s movements

“The criminals had entered into the house from the backside and might have spent a considerable time while searching for the valuables. We hope the case will be solved shortly,” the DSP (CCR) Manoj Kumar Thakur said while talking to the newsmen.

The police had on Friday morning pressed a sniffer dog into service for getting a lead into the theft. This apart the police are also collecting CCTV footage from around so as to trace the burglars.

According to sources in the police, the criminals must have prior information about the victims’ plans to attend a marriage ceremony.

The police are, therefore, trying to get a clue to the burglars by taking statement from the family members.
