Ranchi, July 26: The Special CBI Court in Ranchi on Saturday convicted former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Chairman Dilip Prasad, along with Sudhir Jain and Surendra Jain, in a 21-year-old case of fraud and criminal conspiracy.

The case pertained to causing a loss of ₹28.66 lakh to the state exchequer.

The court sentenced each accused to two years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on each of them.

Bail Granted After Verdict

Immediately after pronouncing the sentence, the court granted bail to all three convicts under the provision that allows courts to grant bail in cases where the punishment does not exceed three years. Following this, the accused were released.

The case relates to a recruitment scam that surfaced in 2004, with the CBI registering an FIR in 2013. Dilip Prasad was accused of abusing his position as JPSC Chairman to influence appointments.

According to officials, this is the first case (RC 6/2013) among several filed by the CBI in connection with the recruitment scam where the court has delivered a verdict.
