Daltonganj, September 19: Puja pandals’ organisers have been given strict advice to have a safe and proper electrification inside and outside of the pandals.
Executive Engineer, Electricity, Daltonganj Division, Santosh Kumar, has asked the organisers of Puja pandals to apply for a temporary power connection, which will be provided immediately. Skilled and professional hands will oversee the temporary connection.
Santosh Kumar has further appealed to the organisers not to lean on unprofessional or unskilled handlers of the electricity, as such unprofessional and unskilled handlers may become a great source of risks and dangers.

He has asked the organisers to take the services of the electricity department’s skilled linesmen or an electrician as any novice can spell disaster.

Quality Standards and Precautionary Measures
Right from the temporary stretching of the electricity wires down to the switch and plug, there must not be any compromise with the quality of the electricity instruments.
Santosh Kumar has directed the pandal organisers to maintain high standard of electrification albeit it’s temporary; nevertheless the wire should be of tested quality and there must be a very minimum use of tapes around the wires.
Tapes should be avoided as far as possible, as in pandals come children in great numbers who in great innocence, don’t mind touching things which may come out to be any electric wire or connection, reminded Santosh Kumar.
Santosh Kumar has warned organisers not to touch frayed or damaged wire or cord. He has asked to keep electricity separated from water. Electricity and water must not be close to each other.
“Avoid overloading outlets. Unplug electrical devices where power is not needed. Too much of ornamental lighting has its own hazards,” reminded the Executive Engineer of Electricity.
Lights are beautiful but so long it is safe and proper, as any liberty with the electricity is extremely dangerous to life, added Santosh Kumar.

Circuit Breakers and Fire Safety Equipment
Puja pandals have high wattage lamps which generate considerable heat, and hence Puja pandals organisers are seriously advised to monitor the heat emanating from the high wattage lamps, said the Executive Engineer of Electricity.
“Every Puja pandal must have circuit breakers. Circuit breakers are protective devices. It stalls the damages caused by a short circuit, besides it doesn’t affect the power supply of the vicinity. So circuit breakers are a must,” added Santosh Kumar.
Active and effective fire extinguishers must be readily available with the Puja pandals.
“All Puja pandals must exhibit full eye-length caution notice about the power source so that families and children should stay away from the power source,” suggested Santosh Kumar.
