Daltonganj, Dec 3: The fourth and last National Lok Adalat of year 2024, is slated for December 14.
There will be 13 benches for this National Lok Adalat.
Principal District and Sessions Judge (PDJ) Niraj Kumar Srivastav held a press briefing this evening today.

3,500 pending and 37,000 pre-litigation cases
The PDJ said, “Before this National Lok Adalat we have a special mediation drive for family disputes and marital discord.”
This special mediation drive is from December 9 to 13.
This special mediation drive has 70 cases, reminded District Legal Services Authority Secretary Arpit Shrivastava, present at the press briefing.
The PDJ said we are quite sanguine about some cases reaching amicable settlement in the coming National Lok Adalat.
Arpit Shrivastava said, “We have 3,500 pending cases and 37,000 pre-litigation cases to be disposed of in the December 14 National Lok Adalat.”
A stern-looking PDJ today was quite open with the very modest presence of the media persons answering questions other than the National Lok Adalat which were most genuine and relevant and beneficial to the society.

Health concerns for jail inmates
The PDJ responding to a query of The Jharkhand Story correspondent that inmates of the jail whether they are under trials or convicts are also covered by the Ayushman card said, “Let me find out how to go about it. The health department here will be approached for this.” He then asked Arpit Shrivastava to look into it.
In the same vein, the PDJ agreed to another issue of this correspondent that a health camp needs to be held inside the central jail as there have been five deaths of the jail inmates in the past seven months or so.
The PDJ said, “We understand many of the inmates may be hypertensive or may be diabetic. Stress is there in their lives. They are away from their families. Their worries are enormous. We will see how their health issues are to be taken up.”
On refusal of post-mortem by families in accident cases
Again, there came an issue that there are instances when families have refused post-mortem in accident cases and forcibly taken away the bodies without the autopsy to which the PDJ said, “Such families are harming themselves. They must not refuse post-mortem. It is in their interest largely.”
On being told that such refusal to post mortem be on account of the families remaining ignorant of the utility of the post mortem, the PDJ said, “Well I will not be any inclined to accept that refusal to post mortem is for ignorance of its value. I tell you if your vehicle crushes a goat, then see how hordes of people will gather around you asking for astronomic amount of the loss of the goat.”
The PDJ asked Secretary Arpit Shrivastava to conduct an interactive session on POCSO and motor accident claims.
